Blame Joss Whedon. There I said it.  Growing up as part of Generation X pop culture, comic books, and television were staples to me. I've loved stories. The ebb and flow of character, tension, and plot. But they lacked humor. Then Mr. Whedon brought his flavor of writing to the world and well...I had to write.

But what? What story or genre grabbed me? So I started considering the adult life of a character who'd lived through a traumatic supernatural experience as a child. As in say...The Exorcist. Good film. Not my favorite but I wanted to think about the mark that left on someone.

And thus McLachlan was born.

A hero between worlds who was as much human as he was supernatural. With a sense of humor.

The mark became the demon stain and from there it was building a world around him.

As for me. I teach high school. Media Studies at a pretty great school with some of the best people ever. Teaching - and in particular this subject - has shaped much of how I see the world, read people, and write. Mostly just as a pleasant diversion from the marking, the planning, the reports, the duties, the meetings that could have been handled by an email. That sort of thing.
